Training & Background
Prof Bassuni is currently a consultant General, Laparoscopic and Colorectal Surgeon at Bedford Hospital. He joined the NHS as a consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Rotherham Hospital in the year 2000, after attaining his training at University Hospital of Wales, Strasburg (France), University of Puroj (Italy), Alexandria University (Egypt) and King Abdul Aziz University (KSA).
He has more than 50 publications and presentations in peer reviewed journals and international societies in the field of general and colorectal surgery.
He has led teams in the UK and abroad (The Middle East) to develop comprehensive Colorectal Services, the latest was chairing the surgical division of a large Teaching hospital in Dubai, Emirates.
He pioneered many surgical techniques in treating functional bowel and pelvic floor disorders, published after his name. He has developed several new services in the UK, like accredited unit for treatment of severe and advanced endometriosis and pelvic floor disorders units in North Trent. He chaired a large network of Colorectal Cancer centre in the North of England and led a large team of colorectal cancer MDT.
He is an invited visiting professor of colorectal surgery in Mansoura University, Egypt and to the Military Medical Academy of Egypt as well as in Dubai Health Care City.
